This will be a three-month appointment initially, but there is potential to extend further. The working pattern is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hours are typically 8:00am–5:00pm or 9:00am–6:00pm, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. Some out-of-hours cover is required.

The role

We are seeking an interim Head of Physical Security to lead day-to-day security across a complex, customer-facing estate. The role combines hands-on operational leadership with responsibility for a professional front-of-house security service, incident response and the systems and procedures that protect people and property.

You will lead four supervisors and oversee approximately 12 security officers, working closely with operations and estates colleagues and a wide range of site stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the security team, including rotas, performance, recruitment, training and service standards.
• Oversee patrols, access control, incident response, investigations, records and business continuity arrangements.
• Coordinate the initial response to fire and other emergencies and provide out-of-hours security cover when required.
• Manage CCTV, keys, access control and intruder alarms, along with related suppliers and expenditure.
• Maintain a professional first point of contact and liaise with police, emergency services, residents and other stakeholders.
• Work with estates colleagues on contractors and promote health and safety practice, including first aid, fire cover, accident reporting and risk assessments.
• Oversee parking arrangements, permits and related operational administration.

What you will bring

• Experience in security management or senior supervision, including team leadership, scheduling, recruitment and performance management.
• A valid SIA licence; Level 2 CCTV is advantageous.
• Practical experience with CCTV, access control, alarms, incidents, investigations and emergency procedures.
• Experience managing contractors and suppliers, with a working knowledge of health and safety, fire safety, risk assessment and COSHH.
• A service-focused approach in a complex environment, clear communication, sound judgement and the ability to prioritise under pressure.
• Integrity, discretion, attention to detail and confidence using Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Flexibility to provide out-of-hours cover. First aid, fire safety or health and safety qualifications are desirable.
